With the combined will of the Portland and South Portland communities we can create vibrant, thriving, low-carbon cities.
Take an active role, beginning with the One Climate Future initiatives.
BUILDINGS & ENERGY
Transitioning to renewable electricity sources, energy efficient buildings, and electric heating and cooling systems will address 71% of the Cities greenhouse gas emissions savings between now and 2050.
WASTE REDUCTION
Projects emphasizing re-use and recycling, organic waste diversion, and wastewater treatment efficiency will make up 3% of the Cities’ cumulative greenhouse gas emissions savings between now and 2050.
TRANSPORTATION & LAND USE
Improving public transportation systems through expansion and electrification will make travel in Portland and South Portland less car-dependent and account for 26% of cumulative greenhouse gas emissions savings between now and 2050.
CLIMATE RESILIENCE
Through efforts such as strengthening local food systems and climate-focused city planning, we will form strong, informed communities resilient to social vulnerabilities and climate concerns.
