Coffee & Climate: A Local(‘s) Perspective on Climate Resilience Potential in Gulf of Maine Fisheries
On Friday, February 13th, 2026 from 9 to 10 AM the One Climate Future Team will be joined by Zach Whitener, the Senior Research Associate & Vessel Safety Officer at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI). Growing up on Long Island in Casco Bay, Zach has spent much of his life on the water in the Gulf of Maine. He has lobstered in Casco Bay since the age of 10, holding several other fishing jobs along the way. He is a Registered Maine Guide and US Coast Guard licensed captain who owns and operates his own company, Anadromous Adventures Guide Service LLC, specializing in fly fishing for striped bass in Casco Bay. Together, we will discuss the challenges that climate change brings to the fisheries in the Gulf of Maine, as well as the community and science-driven strategies and lessons from the past that could be applied to achieve climate resiliency for fisheries.
